Maple & Co Games Table or Desk c.1885 To own this is to own a piece from the halcyon days of Late Victorian furniture making. The table is made of solid oak and walnut with some veneer work and is in totally original condition. The graceful solid oak legs lead to quality brass and ceramic wheels. The two opposing drawers have walnut interiors, brass handles and both are stamped Maple & Co. The stamped leather top is tooled and has a lovely patina.
“One of the most important names in Edwardian furniture was Maple & Co. Maples was based in Tottenham Court Road, London and was the largest furniture store in the world. It made its own furniture for sale at home and abroad, and drew its own customers from both the middle and upper classes and even royalty – Tsar Nicholas of Russia furnished his Winter Palace with furniture from its workshops.
