This gorgeous sideboard or washstand is constructed with solid kauri and incorporates classic Victorian elements such as intricate piercing, repetitive spindles, three beveled mirrors and highly decorative brass handles. The piece was made in Melbourne by Danish furniture manufacturer, George Christian Clauscen and bears the maker’s stamp, Clauscen & Co 194-196 Bourke Street, Melbourne. It is in good original condition and has had minimal restoration. The washstand will be an elegant addition to any bathroom, dining room or lounge room.

3. Victorian Cedar Sideboard c.1860-1890
This unusual cedar sideboard was probably made in Australia during the mid 19th century.The piece has been beautifully made using solid cedar and side cedar panelling, together with a peaked back highlighted by a panel of fiddleback cedar. The strong influence of Beidemeier design is evident in its pyramidal shaped back and square section tapering legs. The Arts and Crafts handles are a later addition, probably around 1900 and some replacement shelves have been recently added. This is a truely unique piece of furniture.

1. Edwardian Walnut Chiffonier or Sideboard c.1900
This elegant Edwardian walnut chiffonier has fantastic compact proportions and is perfect for a smaller room or that difficult space. It is a very simple design that is not overbearing. Well made as most walnut pieces from this era were, it has beautiful wooden spindles, indented lines and original brass handles as its main decorative features. There is a removable shelf behind each door and a lead lined bottle drawer on the right side. This is a very beautiful piece in totally original condition-the patina, handles, beveled mirror, internal shelves and drawer are all original. It is truly as good as it looks. This piece was hired by Baz Luhrmann for "The Great Gatsby".

Card tables or gaming tables have been popular since the early 18th Century. This Arts and Crafts oak table consists of a hinged top sitting on solid oak legs. The beautifully grained oak table swivels to reveal a box-like construction to store cards and games neatly. Turning and opening the top doubles the size of the table and reveals an attractive leather inlay surface. This is an original and very useful piece that can be used as a stylish hall table, side table or small dining table.

10. Art Deco Bakelite Side Tables (2) c 1930
These desirable Art Deco side tables are constructed of bakelite, which was the wonderous new plastic of the day because it could be moulded and shaped into a variety of shapes and patterns, and could withstand everyday use. The tops feature a beautifully carved centre surrounded by a non-slip surface on a stylish pedestal. Their makers, Tilley Plastics, have also trimmed each table with chrome and both bear the patent numbers 22403/22423 underneath. They are a modern interior designer's dream and could easliy be used as matching bedside tables.

4. Maple & Co Games Table or Desk c.1885
To own this is to own a piece from the halcyon days of Late Victorian furniture making. The table is made of solid oak and walnut with some veneer work and is in totally original condition. The graceful solid oak legs lead to quality brass and ceramic wheels. The two opposing drawers have walnut interiors, brass handles and both are stamped Maple & Co. The stamped leather top is tooled and has a lovely patina.
“One of the most important names in Edwardian furniture was Maple & Co. Maples was based in Tottenham Court Road, London and was the largest furniture store in the world. It made its own furniture for sale at home and abroad, and drew its own customers from both the middle and upper classes and even royalty – Tsar Nicholas of Russia furnished his Winter Palace with furniture from its workshops. Maples also furnished British Embassies, even going so far as to arrange for a grand piano to be carried up the Khyber Pass on packhorses”. Furniture by Judith Miller (2005)

The piece is European in origin, possibly Scandinavian, French or Dutch with strong, pine interior paneling and a pale solid oak body. The brass handles and hardware are original and the shaped crown features sinuous Art Nouveau carving. There is full hanging under a solid pine shelf and a generous drawer.

3. Late Victorian American Ash Hall Robe or Press c.1895
This Late Victorian gentleman's robe is a prize example of fine cabinet making. It is constructed of solid American ash with prominent graining and is in totally original condition. This timber was very popular in western Europe at the turn of the century. The fabulous Belgian architect, Victor Horta, used it extensively in his stunning Art Nouveau interiors. Two removable shelves compliment the original pine shelf, making it an extremely useful linen press. The piece can easily be converted back to a hall robe.
