This is an extraordinary example of Arts and Crafts furniture. This imposing hallstand is made of solid, beautifully grained English oak and it retains its original mellowed patina. It has outstanding original patented copper hooks (registration no. 536055), drip trays and copper handle on the single drawer. The shaped slats on either side of the original bevelled mirror reflect a Japanese influence that was so admired by the Arts and Crafts movement.

13. Victorian Cedar Hall tree or Hallstand c.1860
This cedar hall tree is a fabulous survivor from the early Victorian era. It is known as a hall tree because it has a central spine with radiating “branches” from which hats and scarves could be hung. The piece is constructed of beautiful Australian red cedar and retains its unique brass hooks, two of its original turned pegs and patina. Although there have been some minor alterations, its overall original condition is remarkable. This will be a stylish addition to any Victorian home.

12. Art Nouveau Blackwood Hallstand c.1895
This extraordinary Australian Art Nouveau blackwood hallstand was made and retailed by John Martin and Co of Rundle St, Adelaide. It was known as a leading retail establishment in South Australia from 1866-1998 and like David Jones and Anthony Horderns of Sydney, was a manufacturer of high quality ‘new art’ design furniture. This hallstand is in stunning original condition with six fabulous iron hooks, a large resilvered bevelled mirror, one deep drawer and two tin drip pans. It is adorned with an inspiring row of decorative Art Nouveau tiles and raised copper panels with sinuous motifs. Its beautiful solid blackwood retains its original patina and maker’s plaque, John Martin’s Big Store, Adelaide.

2. Federation Oak Leadlight Kitchen Dresser c.1925
This large Federation kitchen dresser is constructed with solid oak and is in outstanding original condition. The coloured glass has been replaced with attractive blue leadlight glass to complement the original clear glass and all the hardware is original to the piece. There is abundant storage in the upper and lower cabinets, metal lined cupboard and three drawers. The enamel ice chest is in excellent condition and bears the original instructions for use on the upper door. The model’s name, “De Luxe” features on a brass plaque above the ice chest. This is one of the best kitchen dressers that we have stocked and will prove to be a valued addition to any kitchen or family room.
